Madurai, December 23: Buoyed by the DMK’s win in the two assemby bypolls in Tamil Nadu, Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister and party’s South Zone Organising secretary, M K Alagiri, today claimed that the party would win the next assembly elections to be held in 2011.
‘I had already predicted that the party would win by over 40,000 votes in the Tiruchendur segment and it has happened,’ Alagiri, elder son of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, told reporters here.
The DMK candidate in Tiruchendur Anita Radhakrishnan trounced AIADMK’s T Narayanan by over 46,000 votes while his colleague Kamalakannan romped home in Vandavasi by over 38,000 votes against AIADMK’s Munusami.
Alagiri attributed the victory to the DMK Government’s various welfare programmes.
He doubted whether the AIADMK, which lost in the bypolls, would contest the Pennagaram bye-elections next month.
State Ministers I.Periyasamy, Thangam Thennarasu and MLAs Moorthy and Ghouse Basha called on him.
The DMK workers celebrated the party’s victory by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.
