Namakkal (TN), August 15: A DMK panchayat president of a village near here was hacked to death by a group of ten persons in a suspected case of intra-party rivalry.
Kanakaraj alias Sekar (36), president of Sivanaickenpatti panchayat, was returning home after making arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations and gram sabha meeting when the assailants attacked him with knives and sickles last night, police said.
Police said supporters of local DMK man Periyasamy, who had lost to Kanakaraj in the panchayat elections, were suspected to be behind the murder.
Namakkal Superintendent of Police S Pari visited the village.
