DMK for support to anti-Lankan resolution

The DMK Wednesday stepped up pressure on the central government to support a resolution moved against Sri Lanka in the UN rights council by the US, saying New Delhi should act on it as it was supported by 30 other countries.

“When a super-power like America (US) is sponsoring the resolution and around 30 countries (are) ready to support that … the TESO (Tamil Eelam Supporter’s Organisation) has welcomed the resolution and is urging the Indian government to support that with necessary changes,” said DMK president M. Karunanidhi.

He charged that some people are trying muddle the waters by criticising the resolution.

Referring to Sri Lanka’s out right rejection of India’s idea to have a dialogue with the US, Karunanidhi wondered as to how the people in the central government believed that Colombo would accept the idea.

Karunanidhi said it is anguishing to hear India terming Sri Lanka as a friendly nation despite the latter insulting leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi.
