DMK-led govt. has fulfilled all pre-poll promises, says Chidambaram

New Delhi, April 05: Union Home Minister and senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram today appealed to voters in Ambur to vote for the DMK-led alliance in the April 13 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls as the ruling coalition has “fulfilled all its pre-poll promises”.

At a poll campaign meeting here, Chidambaram asked the electorate to compare the performance over the past 10 years of DMK and AIADMK.

While DMK has fulfilled “whatever commitments they made”, there were “no good memories” about the AIADMK’s tenure, Mr. Chidambaram said, adding that during the Jayalalitha government more than 1.50 lakh teachers were dismissed following a strike.

The union minister claimed DMK had carried out several welfare measures such as building about three lakh houses per year for the poor and introducing the 108 Emergency Response Service.

Mr. Chidambaram also accused BJP, which is contesting the elections in an alliance with Janata Party, of indirectly supporting AIADMK and said there was a mutual understanding and frequent behind-the-screens talks between the two parties.
