Chennai, April 27: AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today accused the DMK Government of failing to enhance the power generation to 10,760 MW even four years after it came to power in 2006.
In a statement here, she said the DMK Government, in its first budget for 2006-07, promised to enhance power generation to 10,760 MW by the end of the year 2006. But as on date, it stood at 7,300 MW.
“This is the achievement of the DMK Minority Government,” she said adding due to this dismal situation, the State was gripped by severe power crisis and people were not sure when power will come and go.
Referring to Electricity Minister’s statement that there was no power cut in the city, she said North Chennai continued to face power cuts and all sections of the people, including traders, patients and students were suffering a lot.
In the absence of quality power, electronic items used by the people in North Chennai often suffered damages, she claimed and alleged the DMK Government was not concerned about transmission and distribution of power.
She said during her regime, steps were taken for setting up a 110/33 KW sub-station at Tondairpet. But even after four years, the DMK Government has not established the sub-station.
When party R K Nagar MLA, P K Sekar Babu, had twice raised the issue in the Assembly, the Electricity Minister had promised to set up the station but till today it was not established, she said.
Protesting this and frequent power cuts in North Chennai, the AIADMK would organise an agitation on April 29 in front of the District Collectorate Office.
Jayalalithaa Peravai Secretary and Former Minister Nainar Nagendiran and Mr Sekar Babu would lead the agitation, she said.
