Ramanathapuram, May 12: A case has been registered against a DMK councillor for allegedly distributing money to voters in Pannivetti Valasai area in the district, police said.
They said currency notes worth Rs 1,100 were seized from the thatched roof of four residents of the area, who alleged DMK men had slid the money early this morning after they had refused to accept it yesterday.
Police said they had registered a case in connection with the incident against the Tiruppullani Union Councillor Sivasubramanian DMK.
Police said that in their complaint, the residents of the houses alleged the DMK men had visited the area around midnight yesterday and tried to distribute money in return for voting in favour of the Congress candidate Hasan Ali.
However, they had turned them away saying they would vote according to their conscience, the complaint said. But the DMK men had returned when the residents were asleep and had slipped the money on the roof, the complaint alleged.
Meanwhile a report from Srirangam said that a group of men were handed over to police early today morning by some residents for allegedly distributing money to voters.
Police said they had been released after making an oral enquiry. They said they had also seized some documents including booth slips. The election officials said they were looking into the incident and a case would be registered if found true.
