What is the national education policy?
According to NEP, the state government should adopt a three-language formula an implement on it. The three languages include a modern Indian language and any southern languages, apart from Hindi and English in the Hindi-speaking States.
Choice of students for the third language:
Manzar Ali, a member of DMC reported that approximately 90,000 students chose Urdu language and around 29,000 chose Punjabi as a third language last year.
Government schools and third language:
According to a report compiled by the DMC on the government schools, there are 1100 schools in Delhi and out of which Urdu is taught in 284 schools and 282 schools teach Punjabi. This is because there are no teachers to teach the languages.
