New Delhi: Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) served a notice to Sudarshan TV for airing a report about residents of Bawana in north Delhi. It must be recalled that on 11 May the channel had aired a programme which dubbed Bawana residents as “Bangladeshis” and “Rohingyas”. The fact is that these Indian citizens have been officially settled here by government agencies after relocating them from various Delhi areas over the decades.
DMC sought the reply by 12 June with proofs to show that Bawana residents are “Bangladeshis” and “Rohingyas”. Otherwise, the DMC ordered the channel to tender an unconditional written apology and take action against the reporters and staff who prepared and aired the fake report. The DMC claimed that the report “spread disaffection against a section of Indian citizens and could have instigated a riot”.
Besides, the channel has been ordered to air the apology and deposit an undertaking with DMC that it will not air such divisive reports in future. In case of not getting a positive reply to the notice, the DMC will take appropriate action against this channel.
