Johannesburg : World number one Novak Djokovic on Wednesday became the first player to earn more than USD 100 million in prize money after progressing through to the quarterfinals of the French Open in Paris.
The Serbian took three days to defeat Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 7-5 in the fourth round men’s singles contest due to heaving rainfall at Roland Garros.
Djokovic, who had USD 99,673,404 at the start of the tournament, achieved the landmark figure after moving into a 28th consecutive Grand Slam quarter-final, Sport24 reported.
He will next face Czech seventh seed Tomas Berdych for a place in the semifinals.
Last year, Djokovic’s hopes of completing a career Grand Slam were crushed after he lost to Stan Wawrinka in the pulsating finale of the French Open.
17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer stands second on the all-time list with USD 98,011,727 career prize money. (ANI)
