Baghdad, August 10: While Iraqi forces have taken hold of the country’s security from US forces, at least one man has been killed and nine others wounded in continued violence in the Diyala province.
The first attack happened in a rural area south if the town of Buhruz where one person was killed and another injured during attacks by unidentified gunmen. Investigations are underway to find out who was behind the incident.
In a another incident, five policemen were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion near the city of Baquba about 65 kilometers northeast of Baghdad, a source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, a woman and two men were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion near their car on a main road in the town of Baladruz, 30 km east of Diyala’s capital city, Baquba, the source added.
The Diyala province, which extends from the eastern edges of Baghdad to the Iranian border east of the country, has long been a stronghold for al-Qaeda affiliated militants and other insurgent groups.
