Abu Dhabi, June 09: The divorce rate among Emirati couples who benefited from Marriage Fund grants, dropped from six per cent to two per cent last year. This was stated by Dr. Maitha Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Marriage Fund, at a press conference on Monday.
The Fund’s second media campaign, titled ‘Partners together for achieving a better future’, also was announced on the occasion.Dr. Maitha attributed the drop in divorce rate to the enormous efforts made by the Marriage Fund in providing guidance and promoting awareness among married couples as well as those who were planning to marry.
She noted that 2,500 Emiratis had so far benefited from the Fund’s annual grants.
In reply to a question by Khaleej Times, she said: “The efforts of the Fund are aimed at decreasing the rate of divorce in the country by cooperation with the courts and the Ministry of Justice.”
“Training courses targeting the youth and all segments of the society will be held all over the country to educate them about how to manage time and money in order to lead a prosperous and successful life,” she remarked.
“The Marriage Fund will hold many health programmes in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and the local health departments in all emirates as well as the colleges of medicine to create awareness among the people on the health aspects – from the importance of premarital medical check-up to child care.”
