Disinterestedness of Official Language Commission for the development of Urdu

Govt. of A.P. has taken various steps for the development of Telugu as official language through Official Language Commission. Govt. has declared Urdu as the second official language in 15 districts of the State but neither the Govt. nor the Official Language Commission is interested in the development of Urdu to give its proper place in the aforesaid districts. Official Language Commission has recently issued orders for using Telugu in official correspondence. In addition to it has also issued instructions for writing Telugu on the sign boards of shops and establishments. Dept. of Labour also imposed fines for non- compliance of these orders. But the interesting think is the status of Urdu in 15 district where it has been declared as second official language, is very deplorable. In Secretariat, Assembly and Council Urdu is not been implemented. In A.P. Assembly and A.P. Council, not a single Urdu typist, Data Entry Operators is not available. In both these houses there is no Urdu translator either permanently. During the Assembly sessions part time two temporary translators are engaged. Govt. has assurance a number of times for making permanent appointment. These is no Urdu research officer in Assembly and Council to guide MLAs. IN GO. M.S.No. 89 Date 1st April 2013, some posts have been sanctioned for permanent appointments. So that the permanent staff could be helpful in transacting the business of the Standing Committees of various Dept. The permanent positions sanctions included one Research Officer , 12 Data Entry Operators, 12 English Reporters, 4 Telugu reporters but not a single post has been sanctioned for the Urdu staff. These is a need of Urdu knowing staff in both the houses. In addition to these posts, there is also a need for the appointment of Urdu knowing Data Operator, Research Officers and Translators. It is hoped that Govt. pay attention towards this issue before the commencement of second stage of Assembly Session.
