Discount Offers Under Scanner

Ajman, August 09: Promotional and discount offers will be under the scanner as part of Ajman Municipality’s efforts to ensure that buyers are not taken for a ride before or during the holy month of Ramadan.

There are shops which offer up to 70 per cent discount on certain items, and the civic body’s effort will be to ensure that the offers are genuine, Yahya Al Rayaysa, head of the municipality’s Licensing Section told Khaleej Times.

Licensing inspectors will be also supervising the raffle draws organised by some commercial outlets so that there is no malpractice.

Al Rayaysa said the municipality had received several complaints that the products on offer in promotions at some of the leading commercial outlets were priced higher as compared to the previous years.

“Retailers and hypermarkets which announce discounts without obtaining the municipality’s permission will be penalised,” he said.

Al Rayaysa also warned that municipality inspectors will ensure that restaurants and cafes do not open during the fasting hours. “It is illegal to eat, drink or smoke in public from sunrise to sunset during the month,” he pointed out.
