New Delhi, November 30: Chief Justice of India (CJI) K G Balakrishnan on Monday told a delegation of advocates from the Karnataka High Court that the Supreme Court collegium had asked the Centre to institute an independent probe to arrive at the truth behind the allegation of land grabbing against Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Justice Balakrishnan and other judges of the collegium, K N Puttegowda, president, Advocates’ Association (Bangalore), said the delegation had apprised the judges of the situation in the Karnataka High Court in the context of the controversy. The delegation, comprising association office bearers, handed over a representation to the CJI.
Puttagowda said the delegation had put forward two demands — direction to Justice Dinakaran to stop holding judicial proceedings till the completion of the probe and transferring him to some other high court.
“The problem can easily be solved if Dinakaran refrains from attending judicial work. Since he has not chosen to do so voluntarily so far, we earnestly request the honourable Chief Justice of India and the collegium to immediately advise him to do so,’’ said the representation.
Regarding the other alternative, the association said: “The chief justice could be transferred to some other high court so that the advocates’ association, Bangalore, may be relieved of the need to continue the agitation.’’
