Dinakaran issue: advocates body to wait for collegium decision

Bangalore, October 13: After asking Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran not to preside over court proceedings till he was cleared of land grabbing charges, the local bar today said it would await the Supreme Court collegium’s decision on his elevation to the apex court before deciding its next move.

“We will wait for the collegium’s decision on the matter before calling a general body meeting to decide on the next course of action,” Advocates Association of Bangalore (AAB) president K N Puttegowda told PTI.

Gowda said if the collegium did not approve his elevation to the Supreme Court, association members “will not keep quiet” and added “we will not allow the Chief Justice to hear cases.

“We do not want a tainted judge, we want a clean judge. If his name is approved, we would welcome it and let him go to the Supreme Court,” he said.

AAB had passed a resolution recently asking the collegium to immediately probe the allegations against Dinakaran and to take a decision at the earliest.

Dinakaran, in the eye of a storm since allegations against him surfaced, today cancelled his sitting in the high court. Though earlier he was scheduled to hear the cases listed for the day, a notification was issued this morning stating that the sitting had been cancelled but no reason was assigned. .
