Lahore: Govt. of Pakistan has taken a decision to purchase 25 important buildings of pre-Independence era which includes the palaces of legendary actor, Dilip Kumar and famous producer and director, Raj Kapoor which have been declared as national heritage.
It may be mentioned that Raj Kapoor’s house is known as ‘Kapoor Haveli’ which is located at Khissa Khwani Bazar in Lahore. This palace was constructed by the grandfather of Raj Kapoor, Divan Baseshwarnath Kapoor between 1918 and 1922. Raj Kapoor’s uncle, Trilok Kapoor was born in this palace.
In the same locality, the 100 year old bungalow of the ancestors of Dilip Kumar is located. This building is in dilapidated condition now. In 2014, the then Govt. of Mr. Nawaz Shareef had declared it as a national heritage under Archeological laws.
The State Govt. of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has allocated Rs. 62 crore (Pakistani currency) for this purpose.
