Dikshit slams MCD report on contaminated water

New Delhi, March 25: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today slammed the MCD for its report that 18 per cent of water supplied in the city is polluted and accused the BJP-ruled agency of exceeding its mandate to “gain political mileage”

“They are talking about issues which are not in their domain. What is the basis of their claim. We carry out regular check of water. I think BJP is doing it to gain political mileage,” Dikshit said replying to a question on the issue.

A report by MCD’s Public Health department had last week said that 18 per cent of water supplied by the Delhi Jal Board is unfit for drinking and every fifth person in the city is consuming contaminated water.

The samples were collected between January to February 2011 and were tested by the Public Health Laboratory of MCD.
