New Delhi, July 27: It was often referred to as a sweet and sour relationship that sometimes strained at the seams. But elections out of the way, the feud between Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Delhi Congress chief Jai Prakash Aggarwal is out in the open.
Aggarwal, who is also MP from Northeast Delhi, reportedly took up the issue of slow development work in unauthorised colonies in Delhi in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, requesting the Centre to allocate special funds as Delhi government did not have the wherewithal to go full steam on the projects. “I have said that we have got 1,200 unauthorised colonies provisional regularisation certificates from Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
But living conditions there are still hellish. The state government had limited abilities.
At the pace at which work is happening, it will take 50 years to develop these colonies fully,” said Aggarwal. He denied that he had targeted the state government.
But Sheila Dikshit, who refused to comment directly on Aggarwal’s statement in Parliament, said if he had an issue with the pace of work, he should have raised it with the state government. “He has never spoken to me or any of us (about problems in his constituency).
It does surprise me. If it was an issue that an MP had raised about the welfare of his people? (trails off).
But if it is the Delhi government’s job to do something, the issue should be raised with us, instead of the Lok Sabha,” said Dikshit.
