Taking a dig at Prime Minister’s Kisan Kalyan Mela at Madhya Pradesh, the Congress today said the funds spent on organising the event could have been diverted for the welfare of farmers.
“BJP is spending more than 100 crores in organising the rally. Each person is paid Rs 500 to attend the rally in large numbers,” AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singhsaid here.
He alleged that directions have been issued to district collectors and mamledars to bring farmers in huge numbers at the rally.
“Congress demands that instead of spending so much money on rally, the government should have used the money to pay grants to these farmers, who are committing suicides,” he said terming the Modi government at the Centre as “anti-farmer”.
“Having no concern for farmers, does the BJP really want to do something that needs to increase the support price of agriculture crops,” he questioned.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting the Kisan Kalyan Mela at Sherpur village in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh today where he will be felicitated by farmers for launching a new crop insurance scheme.
Modi will officially release operational guidelines of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna at the village. On the occasion, he will also distribute soil health cards and compensation of crop loss to three farmers each as a token.
