Digvijay Singh’s effigies burnt to oppose his visit to AP

All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and in-charge of party affairs for Andhra Pradesh, Digvijay Singh’s visit to Hyderabad tomorrow, was opposed here today by Andhra Pradesh state government employees supporting a “united” state.

We came to know that Digvijay Singh is coming here to put politics here on the wrong track. He need not come
here. Even if he puts pressure on politicians (for not supporting a united Andhra Pradesh), we will intensify
protests,” Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers’ Association (APNGOA) leader P Ashok Babu told reporters.

The “united” AP supporters held a two-month long strike earlier against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Protests were also organised at some places in the Seemandhra region today against Digvijay Singh’s visit.

Alleging that Singh was responsible for the process of bifurcation being speeded up, agitators raised slogans against him and burnt his effigies at some places in the Seemandhra region today.

Supporters of a “united” AP also appreciated the action of several Congress MPs from Seemandhra region for
moving a no-confidence against their own government.

Ashok Babu said that “united” AP supporters would organise protests against union ministers from Seemandhra who
have not yet resigned.
