Digvijay Singh asks Congress leaders to reach masses

AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh has directed the Congress leaders and workers to regain the confidence of Dalits, STs and other sections in Telangana State.

Addressing the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at Imperial Gardens in Secunderabad on Tuesday, Digvijay Singh said that the real tributes to Dr. Ambedkar could be paid by following his ideology. He said several Congress leaders still hesitate to enter the villages of Dalits and STs. Therefore, he directed the leaders to visit all villages of Dalits and Girijans.

Digvijay Singh described the BJP-led NDA Government as anti-Dalit and said that RSS and BJP were wrongly trying to encroach upon the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar.

He alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was making false promises. While describing KCR’s presentation on irrigation as a bundle of lies, he directed TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy to expose it at district and mandal levels. He said the counter-presentation on irrigation projects should be given in areas related to those irrigation projects. He also asked the Congress leaders to contact opinion makers in all the areas

In his speech earlier, Uttam Kumar Reddy described TRS Government as anti-Dalit and slammed KCR for not honouring the promise of making a Dalit CM. While welcoming the proposal to construct 125-feet tall statue of Dr. Ambedkar, he said that the TRS Government owes an explanation to Dalits for not giving them three-acres of land to each family. Similarly, he said that the promises of 2BHK houses, KG to PG free education and other welfare measures remained unimplemented. He alleged that the TRS Government was working only for commissions from contractors.

The meeting was also addressed by Leaders of Opposition K. Jana Reddy and Mohammed Ali Shabbir, PAC Chairman Dr. J. Geetha Reddy, Rajya Sabha MP V. Hanumantha Rao, ex-PCC President Ponnala Lakshmaiah and other leaders. (INN)
