Digvijay to go on hunger strike if demands on MP farmers” issues are not met

Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Digvijay Singh said here on Saturday that he will go on a hunger strike from July 7 for a week, if demands on farmer issues are not met. Highlighting the demands, Singh said, “Those farmers whose houses were destroyed last year in floods, should be given compensation, the ones who suffered loss from soya bean harvest should be provided soya bean seeds, their insurance money should be submitted in their account, they should be provided pesticides through the marketing society and mandi.” “These demands should be met, or else I will go on hunger strike from 7th July for a week in which I will only consume watermelon, glucose and water,” he added. He told the media that he met the chief secretary yesterday, and though he said that he will enquire into the matter, but so far no enquiry has been done. He also appealed to the farmers to go on a hunger strike if they have any more demands so that the government realizes their woes. (ANI)
