Digvijay faults KCR on merger issue

AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh today flayed Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao for his rhetoric against the Congress leadership.
Talking to mediapersons here, Digvijay admitted that they did not accord statehood on the condition of TRS merger into the Congress fold. But he faulted KCR for going back from his previous statement on the merger issue. Digvijay recalled that KCR had told them that he would not hesitate to merge his party into the Congress if Telangana was granted statehood. He said the Congress was not raking up the issue, but only reminding that KCR had spoken about it.
While KCR agenda is to indulge in personal abuse and criticism, the Congress agenda was development and welfare, Digvijay Singh maintained. “We are talking on merger issue as KCR spoke about it”, he said.
On KCR fuming at the Congress and improper language being used, Singh said the people are aware of the TRS chief and his talking style. “We have kept our promise on Telangana issue as per the decision taken after a prolonged debate and exercise”. He said the Congress- led UPA government has fulfilled the dream of the region.
On election campaigning that the Congress lagged behind in Telangana while others going at jet speed, the AICC leader said party leaders of the region are working together and taking much pain. The Congress is going on its own style of campaigning, he said, adding that they are least bothered about Opposition parties criticizing them. “Let the Opposition, including Telugu Desam, TRS and BJP talk against the Congress government at the Centre and in the State. But the Congress would certainly win in the general elections in both the regions and May 16 results will prove the same, he added.
When asked about party leader and MP KVP Ramachandra Rao’s name being figured in a case of alleged irregularities and CBI at the behest of FBI sought Centre’s permission to ‘take KVP into custody’, Digvijay said he does not know. “I have just seen in the media and will find out the details in this regard, he added. He said he would tour the region for three days. He also opined that the Congress has to take up political campaign in a big way. (NSS)
