Suri (WB), August 10: The 17-year old tribal girl, who was filmed while she was paraded naked on charges of having an affair with a boy of a different community, was taken into safe custody by the police and district officials today.
DIG (Burdwan Range) Jagmohon today went to meet the girl at Rampurhat police station in Birbhum district where she was kept in the safe custody of the police.
He talked to senior officers to ensure the girl and her father’s safety. The district administration too took steps so that they were not harassed by locals.
“The BDO concerned has been asked to keep vigil. The village panchayat pradhan was informed about the incident. We have been trying to rehabilitate the girl,” Birbhum District Magistrate Saumitra Mohan said.
