Hyderabad, November 04: Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has asked the media to draw a clear cut line between news, analysis and views as it is increasingly getting difficult for readers to differentiate them.
Inaugurating the first State conference of Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists’ Federation (APWJF) here on Tuesday he said media must be active but not hyperactive as it could create problems.
Stating that it was one of the most responsible professions he cautioned against dissemination of unconfirmed news as it would have adverse effect.
On demands highlighted by the functionaries of the Federation, he said he would examine them.
Minister for Information and Public Relations J. Geeta Reddy asked journalists to maintain healthy competition and opined that the profession was getting too subjective sometimes, rather than being objective. Chairman of the national working journalists wage board would be visiting Hyderabad on December 9 and 10 and issues relating to wages could be taken to his notice, she added.
State president of BJP Bandaru Dattatreya said it was becoming difficult to know facts even after going through three newspapers or news channels.
Founder of Lok Satta Jayaprakash Narayan complained that there was hardly any meaningful and constructive debate on policies in the media nowadays.
Senior leader of PRP, C. Ramachandraiah, said unhealthy trends and practices in journalism needed transformation, which in turn could transform politics. State secretary of CPI (M) B.V. Raghavulu, Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu of TDP, K. Gnaneshwar of Mana Party, president of APWJF P. Parameshwar, general secretary G. Anjaneyulu also spoke.
