New Delhi: Car manufacturers Mercedes, Toyota and Mahindra moved the Supreme Court on Monday, seeking modification of its last month’s order banning 2000 cc diesel cars in the national capital.
The apex court will hear the plea on Tuesday.
The Supreme Court had last month issued an order to ban registration of diesel vehicles over 2000cc in Delhi till March 31, 2016, in a bid to curb the growing air pollution in the national capital.
The ban on diesel vehicles is affecting over 60 cars from different manufacturers, and mainly affecting luxury car buyers since most of their sales come from diesel vehicles and Delhi is one of the most crucial markets for them.
The Supreme Court took the drastic step after the Delhi High Court directed the Centre and city government to present comprehensive action plans to combat rising air pollution. The Delhi High Court had termed the national capital to be a ‘gas chamber’.(ANI)
