Didn’t ask Advani to quit: RSS chief

New Delhi, August 17: It is bad news for BJP leaders wishing to see L.K. Advani bow out as leader of opposition to pave the way for their own elevation. About a week after a lunch meeting between Advani and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, which led to much speculation on the issue of succession in the party, Bhagwat on Saturday denied having asked Advani to nominate a successor.

The BJP has recently been gripped by talk about Advani’s future, set off by those opposed to him. Party sources said so intense was the speculation that both Advani and Bhagwat wanted to find out those behind such stories.

A section of the BJP close to party chief Rajnath Singh was among those blamed. Some leaders pointed the finger at disgruntled RSS leaders.
