Did Aurangzeb destroy temples? Here’s what Historian says

New Delhi: In an interview, historian Audrey Truschke destroyed the myths about the Aurangzeb’s rule in India. She also linked the issue to colonial rule in India.

When asked, Is India hates Aurangzeb? She replied, “Some, not all Indians hate Aurangzeb”. When asked, “Who are they”, she said, “Hindu nationalists, Hindutvadi”. She further said that these people are uncomfortable with the place of Indian Muslims, they want ‘Hindu Rastra’.

Replying to the question, “Why BJP, RSS hates Aurangzeb so much that they have to remove his name from Delhi”, she linked the issue to colonial rule in India.

Commenting on Aurangzeb’s rule in India, she said, “He destroyed some Hindu temple but he protected more of them”.

She also gave the reason why some people selectively highlight the Moghal ruler’s acts. She said, “it serves the interest of the present”.

It may be mentioned that Ms. Audrey wrote two books on Moghal history out of which one is on Aurangzeb.
