Iran’s Ambassador to Damascus Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani says the only way out of the crisis in Syria is dialogue and consultations among all parties concerned.
Speaking in an interview with the Syrian television network on Sunday, Sheibani said Iran believes that the developments in Syria are internal issues and the Islamic Republic strongly opposes any form of foreign intervention in Syria, especially any military deployment to the major Arab nation as it would blow up the entire Middle East region.
He added that Tehran supports the reforms pledged by President Bashar al-Assad, including a referendum on a new constitution that would allow a multi-party political system. The Iranian envoy stressed that Tehran backs the creation of an environment that would be most conducive to dialogue inside Syria, so that the Syrian people could find the best solution on themselves with input from all sides of their society.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has no doubt that the Syrian government and nation are able to resolve the months-long political turbulence in their country, Sheibani pointed out.
He blamed the United States for inciting unrest in Syria, saying that certain Western and Arab states regrettably follow the US footsteps in this regard.
The main purpose of US measures against Syria is to weaken the anti-Israel resistance front in the Arab nation, Sheibani remarked.
The Iranian ambassador highlighted that Washington and its European allies seek to compensate for their failures in Tunisia and Egypt through the escalation of violence in Syria.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011.
Damascus blames ”outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad. The West and Syrian opposition, however, accuse the government of being behind the killings.
