Aligarh: Diabetic patient can fast but it is necessary for him/her to consult a doctor before fasting so that it doesn’t have a negative effect on his/her health.
Director of Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Diabetes, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University said it is difficult for a diabetic patient to control his sugar while fasting in Ramadan however this is possible by using medicines which reduce glucose.
He said designer molecules are available to reduce the threat of hypoglycemia but should be taken with the advice of a doctor.
Dr Shafeeq Siddiqui said Type 1 and Type 2 diabetic patients need to take insulin hence they need to check the glucose level in their blood at short intervals.
