Dhawan, Kohli put India in driver’s seat against Sri Lanka

Galle, Aug.13 : India stand in a commanding position in the first Test against Sri Lanka after having the hosts at five for two at stumps on the second day here at Galle.

Having lost both the openers, the hosts are in a spot of bother, as they still trail by 187 runs and have eight wickets left.

Earlier, opener Shikhar Dhawan (134) and skipper Virat Kohli (103) shared a 227-run partnership to give India a sizeable 192-run lead on the second day.

The visitors scored 375 before getting bowled out in reply to Sri Lanka’s first inning total of 183.

From Lankan side, Nuwan Pradeep took three for 98 runs, while Tharindu Kaushal took five for 134.

The hosts had a very poor second inning start as both their openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva got out without troubling the scorers.

Earlier, Sri Lanka were bundled out for a paltry 183, thanks to an incisive spell of off-spin by Ravichandran Ashwin, who claimed six wickets for 46 runs.

India, who are in the driver’s seat, would be looking to take the remaining eight wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the three match series.(ANI)
