Jaipur, March 19: The overnight dharna by opposition BJP members in the Rajasthan Assembly against suspension of their chief whip Rajendra Singh Rathore and a party colleague from the House showed no signs of ending today even as the Speaker tried to resolve the impasse.
Rathore was suspended for one year while party MLA Hanuman Beliwal has been suspended till the end of the current session for their “unruly behaviour” and stalling the proceedings despite the Speaker Dipendra Singh Shekhawat”s warning.
They were demanding immediate revocation of the suspension of the two BJP MLAs. Soon after the suspension of Rathore yesterday, the entire opposition sat on indefinite dharna inside the House and refused to budge creating a piquant situation.
Shekhwat told that he was making all efforts to talk to the BJP members and invite leaders of both the ruling and Opposition parties to break the impasse. On whether the BJP members on dharna would be marshalled out, Shekhawat said it all depended on the situation.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Gulab Chand Kataria said the dharna will continue till the suspension was revoked. Terming the suspension as undemocratic and unconstitutional, Deputy leader of the opposition Ghanshyam Tiwari said Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal has turned the “simple debate into an issue of ego and behaved in an autocratic manner”.
