Dhaka-Guwahati bus service undergoes trial run

The direct bus service between Dhaka and Guwahati, which is likely to begin next month, is undergoing a trial run today with officials of different ministries onboard.

According to The Daily Star, officials will check the infrastructure on the route which is over 550-kilometers long.

India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran and Bangladesh’s Road Transport and Bridges Minster Obaidul Quader launched the trial service this afternoon.

The bus service will be inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina during the former’s visit to Dhaka next month.

FBCCI President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed said the bus service will “open up a new window for Bangladesh and the northeast part of India”.

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) manager at Kamalapur Bus Depot Nayeb Ali said that the Dhaka- Guwahati bus service will reduce the travel time by three to five hours. (ANI)
