Hyderabad, May 02: After lodging a series of complaints at the State Human Rights Commission’s office here last week, social organisations have intensified their protests against the objectionable reality shows by knocking on the doors of DGP RR Girish Kumar.
A delegation of about 10 social organisations, including AIDHWA, POW, NFIW, SADHNA, other child organisations and some individual social workers met Girish Kumar at his office today and demanded an immediate action to stop the so-called reality shows and children’s dance shows in particular.
The delegation handed over a written complaint and a CD containing obscene visuals of these shows.
“We have complained to the DGP about various issues like that of long working hours for children in bad conditions. We have also complained about how the children are asked to sign contracts and even made to rehearse even if they are unwell or hurt themselves.
As the whole show is being screened publicly we have asked the DGP to book a case under the Section 294 of Obscene Dance and Songs Act.
The shows are a violation of child rights and encouraging child abuse and child labour,’’ social worker and one of the first petitioners Devi said.
The delegation demanded that organisers, judges, mentors as well as those involved in conducting these shows be booked. Apart from seeking a ban on such shows, the delegation also wanted the police to take criminal action against the channel airing the shows.
The DGP is understood to have taken a serious note of the matter and is learnt to have spoken to city police commissioner AK Khan asking him to inquire into it.
