Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma on Monday congratulated the Hyderabad City Police and all the personnel involved in the successful conduction of the Ganesh Nimajjanam event in the State capital.
Expressing his happiness over the smooth and incident free passage of thousands of Ganesh idols across the Old City to Tank Bund for immersion throughout day and night of Sunday, the DGP thanked all the officers and men of the city police force including home guards and others for successfully achieving a major feat of peaceful and trouble free Ganesh Nimajjanam.
Over 20,000 policemen including personnel from central paramilitary forces were deployed as part of the massive security arrangements for Ganesh immersion in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Thousands of idols were immersed in HussainSagar lake in the heart of the city and dozens of other lakes on the outskirts, marking culmination of 11-day festivities of Ganesh Chauti.
Hyderabad police had installed over 400 CCTV cameras all along the main procession route from Old city of Hyderabad across M J market,Abids, Basheerbagh and Necklace Road besides on the route from Secundrabadto keep a tight vigil on the procession of Ganesh Idols and guard against miscreants and anti-socials . “The cameras were connected to the command and control centre, which helped police to cover every inch of the procession so that in the event of any untoward incident ,they could proactively identify it and take measures on ground and contain the problem there itself “, the DGP said .
Nine companies of central paramilitary forces and police forces from Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and other neighboring states were deployed. The police chief said police personnel from other districts of Telangana had also been drawn for the security arrangements. Thirty bomb disposal teams, 30 sniffer dog teams, anti-sabotage squads were also pressed into service. Police had also deployed 120 patrol cars and 15 interceptor vehicles as part of the tight security for the mega event.
He said the police also extensively used mobile phone services and also 900 wireless sets to monitor the proceedings and for better coordination among different wings.
As many as 50 cranes have been installed at Husssain Sagar for facilitating immersion. Authorities have also deployed 85 mobile cranes for immersion of idols at other lakes. He said more than a million people participated in the Ganesh immersion festivities in the city. Despite withdrawal of bus services and road blocks people cutting across caste barriers thronged to witness the processions and the immersion of the massive Ganesh Idols, he said.
The DGP also thanked Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Home Secretary Rajiv Trivedi for their unstinted support in all initiatives of Telangana Police for the successful conduction of the Ganesh NImajjanam and also the Hyderabad City Police commissioner M Mahender Reddy and Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand along with their teams for their excellent organisation and coordinated efforts.
