Hyderabad, January 23: There was no truth in the news reported in the media that the DGP’s office had issued a circular to release arrested persons on bail in offences where punishment was below 7 years, a press release issued the DGP Office clarified.
According to the press release, no such circular has been issued by the DGP’s office. The Cr. P.C Amendment Act 2008 has not made any provisions for release of arrested persons on bail. It only has stipulated that the Police Officers have to give sufficient reason while requesting for remand of arrested persons. The Cr.P.C. amendment has not made any changes in the bail provisions relating to release of accused in Police Stations in all offences punishable with less than 7 years imprisonment. The above said amendment was circulated to the High Court directly by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the High Court in turn has communicated to subordinate Courts.
