Devotees pray under scorching sun at RGI airport

Muslim land acquired, Masjid demolished to build RGI airport yet Muslims are not permitted to offer prayer in the premises. What could be more injustice to Muslims and violation of constitutional rights than this? Devotees are forced to offer prayer under sun at a temperature of 40 degree centigrade. Muslims have been offering five times prayer near Taxi Stand in the airport premises since the airport was inaugurated on March 23, 2008. The Rajiv Gandhi airport is sprawled over 5400 acres of land, of which 1065 is Waqf land. Even the ancient Masjid Omer Farooq was demolished for construction of airport. GMR group had promised construction of Masjid in the airport premises despite that Muslims are not even allowed to erect tents for two hours to offer Friday prayers.

The societies active in protection of Waqf properties should move to court to restore 1065 acre land of Dargah Hazrat Baba Sharfuddin or to get compensation of the land as per market rate. Instead of being obliged to Muslims, GMR group which runs administration of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is stopping Muslims from offering prayer.
