Devise strategy to strengthen security of road, rail transport: Rajnath Singh

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday asked the Ministries of Road Transport and Railways to develop a national transportation security strategy to strengthen security in different modes of transport.

Addressing an all India Conference on Railway Security, the Home Minister said, “Due to its vast network, railways have become soft target of Left Wing Extremism, therefore it needs to evolve a mechanism to strengthen the security system.”

He further said that there could be certain complexities because of federal character of country’s polity, but it can be addressed through better coordination.

The Home Minister also advocated for introduction of an online system to register FIR in trains to facilitate passengers in case of any crime. He said that his ministry has introduced ‘Zero FIR’ to register FIRs from anywhere in the country.

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said, “Safety and security of passengers is the primary concern and his ministry is taking steps to address it in appropriate manner.”

He said that ‘Mahila Vahini Dal’ will be set up to provide safety to women passengers. He also said that the Railway Ministry has also planned to install CCTV cameras in trains for security system. (ANI)
