Hyderabad: A special NIA court on Monday acquitted five people in connection with Mecca Masjid blast case. The acquitted includes Devendra Gupta, an RSS affiliate, who was then convicted on March 8, 2017, in Ajmer blast case. Another NIA special court in Jaipur had found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The Jaipur court said the investigating agency had deduced that the RSS Parcharak had purchased the SIM cards, to time and trigger the bombs kept at Ajmer Dargah. However, the court in Hyderabad acquitted him in Mecca Masjid blast although the SIM cards used here were also used in Ajmer shrine blast.

Moreover, the SIM recovered from an unexploded bomb at Mecca Masjid had matched with a phone used in the Ajmer blast. Both blasts planned on a gap of five months in 2007, were termed part of the same conspiracy by NIA.
The NIA said Gupta operated for the right-wing party in Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh and was a key associate to provide logistics in both cases. He was arrested for Ajmer Dargah blast in 2010 and was convicted along with Bhavesh Patel and Sunil Joshi.
According to a report by The Indian Express, Bhavesh had allegedly placed two bombs at Ajmer Dargah. Of which, only one exploded and the other became a source of evidence.
