Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Bihar Governor Satyapal Mallik and CM Nitish Kumar on Monday expressed grief over the demise of veteran Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor.

“Shashi Kapoor maintained his commitment with theatre through Prithvi Theatre,” Rao said.

“Sad to hear about noted actor, producer #ShashiKapoor ji’s demise. His contribution in Hindi film industry will be remembered forever. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and millions of fans,” Fadnavis tweeted.

In his condolence message, the Governor Satyapal Mallik said “Shashi Kapoor took Indian cinema and theatre to great heights. Besides being a competent actor, he was a man full of human sensibilities.”

The Chief Minister condoled the 79-year-old actor’s death, saying “the demise of Shashi Kapoor is an irreparable loss to the film world. He ruled the hearts of movie buffs in the 1970s and 80s with blockbusters like Sharmili, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Kala Patthar, Deewar and Trishul. The actor also achieved success as a film producer and director.”

Kapoor, 79, took his last breath at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital here.

He made his debut as a leading man in the 1961 film Dharmputra and went on to appear in more than 116 films during ’70s and until the mid ’80s.

Some of his memorable films include Deewar, Kabhie Kabhie, Namak Halal, Kaala Pathar and others.

He was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2011 and received the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award in 2015.
