Hyderabad, July 30: Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) is set to receive another jolt as its senior leader and former Home Minister T Devender Goud plans to quit the party to rejoin his parent Telugu Desam Party. After the PRP’s poor-show in the Assembly elections, Goud’s name has been doing rounds in political circles that he would rejoin TDP.
Goud along with another PRP leader E Peddi Reddy called on TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu recently. Following the rumours that Goud will quit the party, PRP general secretary Allu Aravind had a meeting with Goud.
Later Goud told reporters that he and Aravind discussed the strategy for GHMC e l e c t i o n s and strengthening the party in the State. He, however, admitted that he met Chandrababu Naidu. But, evaded direct reply on quitting PRP.
“I am not a child. Being a seasoned politician I know when and how to act,’’ Goud said. The grapevine has it that Goud along with former minister in the TDP Government E Peddi Reddy and TRS rebel leader A Chandrasekhar would join TDP soon.
But, speaking to reporters PRP president Chiranjeevi averred that Goud would stay with the party. “Goud will not leave the party. In fact, he is preparing an action plan for the party to launch an agitation against Babhali project,’’ Chiranjeevi said.
It may be recalled that several PRP founders including Parakala Prabhakar, Mitra and others left the party by levelling allegations against the party leadership. According to sources, Goud was also unhappy over the functioning of the party. He is reportedly apprehensive that PRP may move closer to the Congress But, the re-entry of Devender Goud into the TDP will not be a smooth affair.
TDP leader Y Ramakrishnudu, known for unified Andhra, will oppose Goud’s entry as also Parigi MLA from Rangareddy, K Hariswar Reddy. But, a majority of TDP leaders from Telangana would welcome Goud’s entry.
The TDP chief had already wanted leaders, who deserted the party before elections, to come back to the partyfold.
