Developmental works well behind schedule

Hyderabad, March 09: With almost all service departments lagging behind by almost one month, officials want the state government to postpone the dates by another month, to complete the pending works proposed in the 100-day programme.

Senior officials admitted they were lagging behind the schedule mainly due to the model code of conduct in force for the elections to local authorities and graduates constituencies as well as due to the non- cooperation movement.

Developmental works taken up by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), Central Power Distribution Company Ltd (CPDCL) and traffic police have not even reached 50 percent completion.

“We will bring to notice the problems faced by us to concerned ministers and the chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. We will request the government give one more month to complete the developmental works,” a senior GHMC official said.

GHMC had decided to repair roads at a cost of `135 crore. It also planned to develop sidewalks, remove overhanging wires and improve junctions. Similarly, HMDA planned to complete Outer Ring roads, improve parks and clean up the Hussain Sagar. CPDCL had proposed works like tightening loose wires and construction of new sub-stations. Water Board also planned to clear pending water connections and lay new water and sewerage lines. However, all works have been held up in the bottlenecks.
