New Delhi: Development work by the Centre will be BJP’s main poll plank in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections, Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti said on Monday.
To questions on Ayodhya and Ram Mandir she refused to comment saying, “The matter is sub judice.” She, however, said that though it was a question of faith, Ram Mandir will never be a poll issue.
Political parties must come together and reach on a solution, she suggested at an event hosted by Aaj Tak news channel.
Defending Mulayam Singh Yadav’s decision, as then chief minister, of ordering firing on kar sevaks in Ayodhya, state minister Kamal Ahktar said, “The SP supremo, Mulayam Singh Yadav, was then at a position of huge responsibility. He did what was required of him at the post.”
He alleged that when the Gujarat riots happened people at responsible positions did not fulfil their responsibilities.
Lashing out at the UP government, Congress leader PL Punia said, “The state government is showing construction of highways as development. What is the use of such development in the face of rising crime against women in rural areas.”
The government is not bothered about the deteriorating law-and-order situation. It should work toward improving it, he said.
