Minister of Municipal Administration and Minority Affairs, Govt. of Karnataka, Mr. Qamarul Islam welcomed the proposal of Govt. of India for the formation of separate Development Board for Hyderabad Karnataka region. He thanked Ms. Sonia Gandhi, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Mr. Chidambaram, Mr. Siddaramaiah, Mr. Malikarjun Karghe and Mr. Dharam Singh. Mr. Qamarul Islam was in Hyderabad to see off the Hajj Pilgrims of Karnataka State.
It may be noted that Mr. Rahul Gandhi had promised to give special status to Hyderabad Karnataka region under article 371-J of Constitution of India to ensure the formation of separate Development Board. The responsibility of framing rules and regulations for the proposed board was entrusted to Govt. of Karnataka. On the same lines, Union Cabinet approved this proposal.
