Hyderabad, February 24: In a freak mishap, a four-year-old boy was killed and his younger brother injured after the wheels of a sand-laden lorry got detached from the vehicle and hit them at Shaheen Nagar this morning.
The complete set of rear wheels got detached from the vehicle and ran over the duo who were walking by the road to their grandfather’s house nearby when the incident took place.
According to police, the duo, Mohd Awais (4) and his two-year-old brother, Adnan, are sons of Abdul Rehman, a stove repairer.
Rehman resides at Wadi-e-Saleim at Balapur village.
“Both of them walk to their grandfather’s house at Shaheen Nagar daily. Today also they were walking to the place when the wheels of the vehicle got detached and first hit a wall. Later, the set of wheels hit the duo at a high speed,’’ Pahadisharief police said. The incident took place on Srisailam highway.
Awais suffered severe injuries and died instantly while Adnan, who suffered severe head injury, is obtaining treatment at a private hospital.
The driver of the lorry (AP11 U 6862) abandoned the vehicle and fled away. Police registered a case against the driver and launched a search to nab him.
