UP Deputy CM blames opposition for Dalit Violence

Ghaziabad: Yogi Government in UP blames opposition party for the violence that broke out during the protests on Monday against the dilution of SC/ST Act by Apex Court.

UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya held that the opposition was behind the outbreak of violence in the state.

He alleged that Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Congress along with other anti-social elements have participated to turn the protest into violence.

Mr. Keshav was addressing a public meeting at Ghantaghar Ramlila Maidan. He also said the State Police is taking action against the miscreants found guilty in the recent incident.

Warning officials against corruption, Mr Maurya said if any official is found guilty of corruption he shall be punished with a jail term.

The state government has booked nearly 5,000 people for turning the protest into violence damaging public and government properties in Ghaziabad.

The Supreme Court on March 20 has banned the automatic arrests and registration of criminal cases under the Scheduled Castes (SC) and the Scheduled Tribes (ST) (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

It, however, said anticipatory bail can be granted if the court finds the complaint is false or abuse of law, intended to blackmail or harass someone. It said no arrests can be made under the Act without any prior notice.
