Depression during pregnancy should not be taken lightly

Hamburg, November 18: Recent study has shown that most Australian people believe that depression during pregnancy is natural.

Research team claimed that this is a worrying trend as depression during pregnancy should be recognized as early as possible, so that it can be treated. Moreover, depression during pregnancy is not normal.

The study was based on the data collected from 733 men and women surveyed under the ‘Beyondblue’ depression initiative.

Data analysis indicated that around 50% of study subjects feel that depression during pregnancy is natural and normal. Around 25% believe that post-natal depression doesn’t require any treatment as it gets cures itself after sometime.

Beyondblue deputy chief executive and psychologist Nicole Highet said, “Maybe people are confusing the baby blues, which is quite normal and it does pass on its own, withdepression, which is certainly not normal and it’s something that needs to be picked up as soon as possible.”
