Depressed over poor marks, student ends life

Nellore, April 30: Depressed over not getting the marks he had expected, a 17-year old Intermediate student K Harsha Pratap allegedly committed suicide here on Thursday evening.

However, the police did not confirm the suicide. It is learnt that the family members of the boy cremated him on Friday afternoon even before the news of his death spread.

Sources said the family members came to know of the tragedy, only when they found the boy’s body hanging from the ceiling in his room at midnight, after making a futile search for him elsewhere.

Harsha Pratap, son of K Shanta Rao, a deputy engineer with panchayat raj department in the district, had reportedly secured 927 marks in the Intermediate examinations, of which results were announced on Thursday.

According to sources, he had expected 970 marks, but got only 927. On learning about his marks he went into a depression and did not have his lunch. Efforts of his mother and sister to calm him down proved futile.

Both his mother and sister went out in the evening and when they returned home, did did not find Pratap in the house.

They thought he might have gone to his friends place. But when he did not turn up even after 9 pm, they made frantic searches for him by calling his friends, only to be told that he did not go there.

Suspecting something wrong, they checked his room which they found locked from inside.

They forced open the doors and found the body hanging from the ceiling.
