Chennai, June 29: A woman was arrested for allegedly murdering her six day old baby boy, at Tambaram on Tuesday. Sources said, D Revathi, of Bhajanai Koil Street in Red Hills, gave birth to a baby boy six days ago. Her husband was a daily wage labourer. Revathi was said to be suffering from depression for the past few months. On Monday, she was asleep in the house with the baby, her motherinlaw Rani and other relatives. Around 11 pm, Rani woke up and found the infant missing. The infant’s body was then founf inside a plastic water container. The police recovered the body and picked up all the family members for questioning, when Revathi confessed to the murder. Last year, she gave birth to a baby girl, which died within a month. Police suspect her hand in the death of her daughter too.
Missing Armyman’s Body Identified
The body found on the track at the railway yard in Royapuram on June 25 has been identified as that of a an Armyman, who was reported missing by his battalion on Sunday.
Surinder Singh (36), a native of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, arrived in the city with his battalion three months ago.
The soldiers were staying at a military quarters and Singh was deployed at a store in the Army camp close to the Memorial Hall in Park Town, railway police said. On June 26, he was reported missing by the Captain of the 25th Punjab Battalion at the Flower Bazaar Police Station. The previous day, police had police found the body of a man in military uniform at Royapuram. “He looked like a sardar and we submitted other physical details to the Army office at the Central Railway HQs,” said a cop.

Three cases of robbery were reported in the city on Tuesday. Sources said, Shyam Sundar (42), a civil engineer of Ambattur, arrived in his car at the Directorate of Town and Country Planning Office, Anna Salai on Monday. He then went to the second floor of the building, while his driver waited in the car. A stranger then accosted the driver and pointed to two `100 notes lying nearby. After distracting him, the man took away a bag containing `1 lakh that was kept on the back seat of the car.
Similarly, Madhusudhanan, a businessman, withdrew `1.5 lakh from a bank near his house in Anna Nagar. He was about to get into his car when a man pointed to some currency notes lying on the road. As he bent to pick up them up, the man snatched his suitcase and fled.
Meanwhile, Subramani of Govindarajan Street in Choolai also lost `1.2 lakh to a conman, who employed the same modus operandi.
