Hyderabad, September 18: The H1N1 virus has claimed two more lives in the State, while three persons, two of them children, have succumbed to dengue.
With these fresh cases the total number of deaths due to swine flu rose to 18 going by the official records, while unconfirmed reports from Medak, Mahaboobnagar, Khammam, Warangal and Karimnagar, where proper screening and testing facilities are not in place, reveal that the death toll rose to 26.
According to the district medical and health officer, medical teams have so far screened 11,092 persons, of whom 392 tested positive. Of them, 374 have received treatment.
A H1N1 positive case, Satyanarayana (42), died at Osmania General Hospital here today. The virus has also taken the life out of Nagaraju (36) of Zaheerabad in Medak district, who was undergoing treatment at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here.
An 11-year-old Chetan from Warangal, who was admitted to Kamineni Hospital with fever, died of suspected dengue. The viral fever has claimed the life of another child, Kavya Sri (6), A resident of Qutubullahpur, Kavya was shifted from Sanjeevani Hospital at Chintal to the Niloufer Hospital where she tested positive for dengue and died while undergoing treatment.
A mediaperson, N Sridhar (A-TV), who was undergoing treatment at Yashoda Hospital at Malakpet, was the third person to have died of dengue today.
In a development that sent shivers down the spines of the medical fraternity, a senior doctor and three nurses at Gandhi Hospital contracted the H1N1 virus and were declared positive today.
